Lazy? I think?
When I was still in high school, my biggest problem is being lazy. I really do not know what came into my mind and I just felt laziness all the time. Maybe I am confident that even though I won’t study, my classmates would definitely help me whenever I’m in need or when I’m in trouble. I really can’t recall the time when I actually went home, change my clothes and go directly into the study room to study and not to do unnecessary things that are not related in school. I think the problem that I encountered is laziness. I wasn’t able to aim high grades in high school because of my laziness. Even though I didn’t get any failure marks, it made me realized that, what if I exerted more effort in my studies, maybe I’ll get not only passing grades but high and maybe I could have made it to the honors.
Now that I am a college student already, I can observe that I give more attention now to my studies compared before. I am really happy for the change in me and I do not want to disappoint the people around me anymore especially my parents. That’s why I will do my best just to make them proud of me.

Poverty
Have you seen street children begging for money? Have you seen babies carried by their mothers under the heat of the sun? Have you seen children looking for food in the garbage cans? Have you seen families live in slum areas?
Based on surveys, among the thirteen countries in Asia, Philippines ranked as the most corrupt country. According to Sanjeev Gupta, Hamid Davoodi and Rosa Alonso-Terme of IMF working paper 1998, corruption affects income inequality and poverty by reducing economic growth, the progressivity of the tax system, the level and effectiveness of social programs, and by perpetuating an unequal distribution of asset ownership and unequal access to education. The lives of the poor are the most affected because of the low income they get. Corruption has very big effect on their personal and family life. That’s why many Filipinos experience poverty. I have seen children roaming around the squatter’s area playing instead of going to school and learn. I have seen parents doing illegal things just to raise their children. I have seen mothers using their babies for begging money. We do not know the reasons behind their actions so we shouldn’t judge them.
By this time, we can’t understand the real life but when the time comes and we had our own family, we’ll know what it feels to be a parent and will do anything for our children.

Safety
Do you remember the invasion of the terrorists? Do you remember the bombings here in our city? Do you remember the hostages and kidnappings happened recently? Are you a victim of stealing or rubbery? Are you a witness of murder? Are you a rape victim? We do not know when we’ll safe because we could be harmed even we are in our own homes what more if we are outside.
We, Filipinos traditionally tell our loved ones or friends, Take Care (English), Ingat (Filipino), Quidao (Chavacano) and Kamaya (Tausug) before leaving a certain area or place. It shows concern for other people around us, not only the persons who are close to us, but also the ones who we just met. When I hear the word safety, the first thing on my mind is car. I don’t know why it is like that, maybe because I usually hear news about car accidents that’s why. I just realized that even we’re at home; we can encounter accidents especially at the stairs, in the shower and in the corridors or simply in your own room. We cannot tell when to be safe and when to be not. Only God knows our future and nobody else can. The invasion of the terrorists before, on November 27, 2001 was the unforgettable moment happened in Zamboanga City, where they wanted the Cabatangan (part of Zamboanga City) to be part of ARMM, the bombings happened in the city proper that was caused by Abu Sayyaf guerrillas according to the city officials, the hostages and kidnappings issue that alarmed the whole city especially the parents of students from different schools are the things we are afraid of until now. We do not what it to happen all over again.
The only thing we can do to avoid harm is to stay at home, avoid going to town, avoid crowded places, and refrain from going home late. And of course, do not forget to ask for protection and guidance from our Father.

Couch Potato
Do you enjoy watching movie? What kind of movie you usually watch? Do you prefer watching movie with someone else or all by yourself? What do you like, watching movie at home or in movie house?
I’m a kind of person who loves watching movie. I think I am born to be a “movie addict”. Last summer, I spent my time watching movies downloaded by my friend. If I am not watching movies, I watch series like Gossip Girl. I finished the three seasons and the fourth season will be aired soon. The first time I saw the DVD cover, I was stunned by it and wanted to watch it as soon as possible. It started there and I can’t stop it. I got addicted to it but not to the extent that I copy the personalities of the character of that movie series. I also have my favorite movie, and it’s Armaggedon. I know it’s an old movie but I can’t help it. I asked my friend to download it for me and he actually did. My friends know that we have lots of DVDs at home and if we’re going to hangout at home, they always ask if what movie we are going to watch. Before, we always buy DVDs but when downloading movies existed, we stopped buying. We just download and imagine, I have 45 movies in the computer now. But if I didn’t delete some, I think it will reach a hundred already, that’s how addicted I am when it comes to movies.
I’m a happy person. I find ways just to cheer myself up and not to feel boredom. And watching movies or television entertains me. I don’t get bored when the television is turned on. For short, I can’t live without television because movies, series, show are my life.

MOMMY!
My mother and I are very close to each other. We are like best friends. I share my secrets to her sometimes and even exchange jokes with her. Even though I treat her as my best friend, I know my limitations. I still respect her to the fullest and give her my love and care. I know it when she’s sad because she starts to keep quiet as if she has her own world. And my mother is a drama queen like me. Whenever we watch dramas on television, we easily cry and my dad will just laugh and say, “Like mother, like daughter”. I love my mother so much. She raised us as good people and taught us every value she knows. My mother is not a quitter, she’s a fighter. And one last thing that I won’t forget, she never forgets to tell us, to thank God for every little thing we receive.
There are instances that we get mad to them because they do not allow us to do what we want. That is why because our mothers know what is best for us. We shouldn’t dictate what should they do, but instead listen to them. We sometimes do not know anymore what to do because of their strictness. We do not know what they feel, but in the future, we’ll all know what it feels like to be a mother.

Me? A Bookworm?
I am a type of person who loves enjoying life in a creative way, but no offense, reading for me is kinda boring. But it depends on what kind of reading material I am using. Usually I read articles on newspapers and magazines. I do not like to read long(3x) stories like novels, pocket books and etc. I find short stories more interesting than long. You see, it only shows how lazy I am in reading. But I think, I really have to convince myself to read more and not to prioritize laziness this time 'cause I know there's a lot of reading to do in college.
We, human beings are really different from each other. Sometimes we do have in common but sometimes we do not have at all. Like in reading, some people love to read but some don't.
